The design

The architecture

Old Toccoa Farm is a living case study in mountain golf routing—every hole bends purposefully with the land, making use of deep ridges, plunging drops, and airy riverbanks. Proctor & Axland’s vision was both to finish what had started in the 2000s and sculpt something new out of the site’s weathered bones; the result is a par-72 that’s both strategic and cinematic. Expect creative risk-reward holes, broad landing corridors, and greens that ask you to control both spin and spin rate—relying as much on altitude judgment as on courage. The clubhouse, perched for peak valley views, completes the sense of occasion.

Dan Proctor and Dave Axland (Bunker Hill), known for original, rugged-leaning designs and expert terrain adaptation, turned a forgotten mountain property into a regionally celebrated golf destination.

Hole 5

Ridge Run Gauntlet

PAR
4
YARDAGE
439

One of the strongest par 4s on the front, this sweeping dogleg rides the spine of the property before funnelling into a muscular green site. Your tee shot must hug the left side for the best angle or risk being blocked by native growth.

Play it smart

Aim for the left-center of the fairway to open up your second shot—accuracy trumps power here.

Where it bites

Miss too far right and the trees and uneven lies can quickly escalate to a dropped shot.

Course management

Shots to think about

Downhill par 3 with swirling wind
Take an extra club and trust your yardage adjustment—don’t get cute.
Short risk-reward par 4
Distance control trumps length; position for your favorite wedge yardage rather than driving the green.
Long uphill par 5 approach
Lay back for the best angle unless you’re certain you can clear the elevation—don’t get greedy on your second.
Greenside chip from tight zoysia
Choose a bump-and-run if possible—the turf makes spinning a lofted shot tough.
Approach to elevated green
Respect the back-to-front slope and avoid leaving yourself above the pin.
Recovery from native area
Take your medicine—pitch sideways if needed, and focus on avoidance on the next hole.

community

Resort-Quality With a Local Soul

Though built for public access and destination play, Old Toccoa Farm never lost sight of its North Georgia roots—community tournaments and Blue Ridge camaraderie flavor the fairways just as much as the mountain air.
