The design
The architecture
Evansville Country Club is a rare blend of golf’s golden age roots and contemporary strategic re-thinking. The original Tom Bendelow and William Tucker layouts were shaped and reshaped across the decades, most notably in the 2022–2023 Beau Welling Design transformation. Modern holes intermingle with vintage corridors, with bolder green contours, intelligent bunkering, and landing zones moved to challenge today’s game. Creative use of the available 128 acres brings both long, demanding holes and short, attacking par 3s. Members now enjoy a thoroughly refreshed course, with five wholly new holes, a tighter routing, and a re-built practice spine.
Beau Welling Design’s 2022–2023 work brought cohesion and modern pace to a course shaped by more than a century of evolving golf architecture.

YARDAGE
204
A true one-shotter demanding a pure long-iron or hybrid, the 204-yard third hole requires precise distance control and nerves, especially when the wind kicks up across the open corridor. The green is well-protected and misses will make par a tough save.
Play it smart
Play to the center or safe side of the green to take lurking trouble out of play, even if it means a longer putt.
Where it bites
A misjudged tee shot can find tricky bunkers or leave a challenging pitch from deep rough.
Course management
Shots to think about
Long par 3s with changing winds
Club up and trust your yardage on holes like 3 and 14, even if the distance feels intimidating.
Short, tricky par 4s
Don’t let the shorter yardage lure you—lay up to comfortable numbers and favor the widest part of the fairway on holes like 5 and 18.
Par-5 second-shot decisions
Evaluate the angle and lie before attacking in two; sometimes a smart layup pays bigger dividends than heroics.
Multi-tiered green complexes
Take an extra beat to spot pin locations and plan approach shots to stay below the hole, especially on redesigned greens.
Approach shots from below the hole
Favor conservative lines toward the center, as misjudging depth can turn easy pars into scrambling bogeys.
Closing stretch nerves
Stick to your process—don’t chase pin positions on 16 or 18 unless you absolutely need it.
