Pat Wyss routed the course to maximize drama, using natural canyons and historic flatlands for variety: the front nine skirts the mountain, while the back plunges into rock corridors and up rugged slopes. Generous landing zones and dynamic elevations give big hitters a thrill, but the real challenge is managing approach angles and club selection amid swirling Black Hills winds.
