The West Course wasn't just added—it was carefully wrapped around the iconic South Course. Its perimeter routing carves through mature trees and opens up vistas new to Firestone, giving even long-time club regulars fresh sightlines and different wind exposures.
Every year since 2003, many of Ohio’s best senior professionals have faced off on the West Course, adding to the club’s reputation as a cradle for competitive golf—even if the big networks aren’t watching.
Overshadowed by the South, the West Course has become a favorite proving ground for members and guests who want plenty of challenge but a modern, player-friendly walk. It’s earned its place as the club’s versatile, dynamic option.
The West Course stands as Firestone Country Club’s contemporary answer to its storied championship siblings. Originally conceived by Cornish and Silva but reworked by Tom Fazio, it features open corridors, more exposure to wind, and a flowing perimeter layout. Fazio’s influence is seen in the larger scale of hazards, the subtlety of green contouring, and the blend of strategic angles—with crisp conditioning and a links-inspired persona that contrasts the club’s traditional parkland roots.

The first hole sets the tone: a straightaway, mid-length par 4 with a generous landing zone that tightens for the uphill approach. Bunkers guard both sides of the sloping green.
Hit the fairway and favor an approach below the hole—distance control is paramount to avoid rolling away on the back-to-front, right-to-left green.

You’ll face several approaches and par 3s that demand crisp iron play, especially on the back nine’s longer holes.
Quick, bentgrass surfaces put a premium on distance control with the putter and an ability to read subtle slopes.
Though open, some transitions from green to tee are lengthy. Walking is possible but be prepared for a brisk pace.
The course can lull you with short par 4s, but each stretch demands renewed attention—think two or three holes ahead.
