The Finley site has hosted three fundamentally different courses in its lifetime—from Cobb’s classic parkland, through Fazio’s modernization, to Love Golf Design’s strategic 2023 transformation. Each era redefined how Tar Heels experience the game at Chapel Hill.
Jack Nicklaus offered to waive his design fee to work on Finley in the 1980s while his son was on the UNC team, but the project never came to pass. Instead, decades later, Carolina alumni Davis Love III helped shape its bold new identity.
